Paralyzed
by Partisanship |
Our political system has become undeniably
paralyzed by partisanship and particularly by a Republican Party
that has steadfastly refused, and even announced the fact to the
media, that they will not allow the passage of any proposal made
by Obama.
While it would be impossible to actually blame Obama for
failing to solve the massive problems facing this country, which
he obviously inherited from the previous administration, the President
has not provided the leadership necessary to combat this unbelievable
refusal to participate in a democracy.
But his recent speech, which called out to Republicans
to put aside the partisanship and challenged them to come together
for the good of the country, indicates a change in his tone and
emphasized a new determination to get things done despite their
dogmatic resistance.
This comes at a time when the obvious incompetence of our
congressional leaders has most citizens and investors worried and
wondering whether the current incumbents are even capable of representing
the citizens and solving the problems facing this country.
Obama needs to offer programs and set goals that Republicans
can support in order to make the first small steps in a positive
direction toward an undivided nation. Some of the obvious measures
and immediate solutions Obama is calling for, and should be supported
by Republicans, include payroll tax cuts, new jobs through investments
in infrastructure construction and repair, an improved education
system and other projects that can produce both short- and long-term
benefits for the country.
Congress needs to focus on the basics, such as healthcare,
employment, infrastructure, water, shelter, power, transportation
and communications. Obama must offer details on spending cuts and
revenue increases while addressing the many major problems facing
the country. The primary problem they are facing is the repair of
the economy, which is an impossible task for any single man and
cannot be accomplished without the cooperation of all members of
Congress as well as business and industry.
Obama must also challenge his own party’s base, which
is questioning selected parts of his plan, and focus on what is
good for the country and its people. Industry has had more than
its fair share of the pie for decades now --- and its time to take
it back. And, as a group, this Congress has been a total failure
in terms of meeting the needs of the middle and lower classes, but
Big Business and its congressional friends seem to be profiting
highly from the traditional graft and corruption still rampant in
the capital.
While most politicians seem so preoccupied with continuous
campaigning and placating the extreme right for their votes, they're
seemingly afraid to even mention some of the real problems facing
this country. Certainly there are no Republicans currently campaigning
that are displaying any real capabilities for the job or demonstrating
any ability to actually make the decisions necessary to run this
country. Praying just ain't gonna do it, Rick Perry!
Obama has previously promoted his concept of a Grand Bargain,
a plan to reach agreements between the two political parties through
compromise when discussing topics of national interest. But the
Republicans have continually ignored his efforts.
The plan is to reduce long-term spending and raise additional
tax revenues through short-term investments in areas that benefit
the people, the economy and the country.
The focus should be on the basic needs of the country and
improve the economy through employment while repairing its deteriorating
infrastructure, improving our education system, developing adequate
transportation systems for the future and supporting scientific
and technological research, among the many other technologies and
services that can help rebuild our economy.
Obama's plan demands a response from the Republicans with
a serious plan that benefits not just big business, but the country
as a whole. A plan that focuses on fixing the problems facing this
country in spite of the fact they might antagonize their party's
leadership in the process.
The prime focus of today's Congress should be the effort
to fix the economy. This is an impossible task for any single man;
the current situation cannot be blamed on Obama.
Most of our current problems trace back to the Nixon Era,
a period in which most of the capital cronies ended up doing prison
time. They evolved through the Reagan years as the Republicans started
using the people's credit card and running up a bill they were saying
then, as now, that our future generations will have to pay for this.
And the most devastating results erupted during GW's Reign Of Error.
The current question is, can the G.O.P. actually show some
credibility and abandon their inflexible, set-in-cement stance against
tax increases under any circumstances, or will at least a few of
them, possibly some potential leaders, show some fortitude and support
some of Obama's bills? They need to show some integrity and stand
up against the Republicans' Party-Line Politics and do what needs
to be done for this country.
We want the things accomplished that were the reasons the
citizens of this country started paying taxes in the first place.
Such as police and fire protection, quality education systems and
infrastructure.
This America. We should have the best infrastructure in
the world, and yet we now find ourselves far behind other industrialized
countries in so many ways. The obvious cause for this situation
is incompetence and corruption in our politics; at all levels. We
need to Throw These Bums Out!
Most Americans want to see our politicians working together
to solve the incredible number of serious problems currently facing
the country. We are tired of the outright lies and slandering of
campaigning politicians, the Republicans' parroting the Party's
pick for the media topic of the day, and mostly the shouting and
their continuous threats against our personal freedoms.
The vast majority of Americans have their own religious
and lifestyle views and when we finally reach the end of this monotonous
campaign and stuff our ballots into the box; we are going to throw
out all of candidates who oppose them.
Any politicians hoping to win elections could benefit greatly
by learning this lesson, abandoning partisan politics and demonstrating
a desire to do what is best for America. Not what their political
party tells them to do.
