There aren't any simple solutions to the corruption
and eternal incompetence that characterizes the halls of our current
Congress. But the obvious first step is to Throw the Bums Out and
replace them with competent, intelligent people who genuinely champion
the true causes of this country and its people.
We don't need politicians who are just filling their pockets with
the under-the-table dealings of politics while they search for personal
power, fame and fortune. Throw Out these supposed representatives
of the people who really support the issues of Big Business and
ignore the real issues facing this country.
We need politicians -- at all levels -- who know how to take this
country back from the greed-ridden grasp of Big Business and put
our Democracy back on track! They need to function at all levels,
have experienced life outside the penthouse and the mansion, and
are capable of comprehending the real issues currently facing this
country.
We need people with common sense and experience. People who, in
the nature of our founding fathers, actually want to serve the citizens
of this country. Serving in Congress should be an honor, not a lifetime
career.
Our elected representatives are not, and should not, be considered
above the masses. Our politicians need to live a life that is more
in touch with the reality of the common man if they're going to
make decisions affecting the tax-paying citizens of this country.
They should not be receiving outrageous salaries and such unbelievable
benefits as a lifetime pension with full healthcare after a single
term in office!
Here are Some Suggestions for Reforming Congress
| Term Limits: A 12-year limit for serving in Congress.
Possible options include: |
| |
Two Six-year Senate terms |
| |
Six Two-year House terms |
| |
One Six-year Senate term and three Two-year House terms |
Reasonable Pay: A congressman should collect a salary while in
office, but receive no pay once they are out of office.
No Pension: Members of Congress should participate in the Social
Security program with the American people that they have been elected
to represent. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund should
be moved to the Social Security system. Members of Congress can
develop their own alternative retirement plan, just like the rest
of Americans do.
Members will lose their current healthcare system and participate
in the same healthcare system as the American people, including during
their retirement years.
Congress will no longer be allowed to vote themselves a salary
increase or any other benefits. Pay raises and all benefits will
be subject to a vote in a national election by the registered, tax-paying
voters of this country.
All legislation will be single issue only with no special interest
riders (pork earmarks).Any legislation passed by Congressshould
require a review period during which time each congressman will
be required to read and comprehend the entire legislation prior
to a final vote.
All legislation passed will have a specified expiration date and
require a review by Congress before a renewal or extension.
Members of Congress must abide by all laws they impose on the American
people. No exceptions for the high ranking or ultra wealthy.
Members of Congress should be prohibited from signing contracts
for lobbying or any other political purposes for five years after
their terms in office. Existing contracts will be voided.
We need people with the foresight to set this country back on track
in a positive direction for the future of the country.
What are the odds our current Congress could pass anything even
close to these suggestions? All the more reason to start the campaign
by Throwing the Bums Out!
