| Where's
the Change, McCain?
Presidential candidate John McCain campaigned on a platform for
Change in 2008. The changes he espoused were primarily the policies
of the Republican Party under the Bush administration, which had
spent the previous eight years driving our ship of state onto the
rocks.
It was difficult for anyone to believe McCain's campaign tactics,
it was simply typical Republican rhetoric, like those employed to
elect GW to the presidency: tell the people what they want to hear
in order to gain power --- then implement your real plans.
Intelligent people knew he wouldn't affect real change, even as
president. The Republican Party demands total loyalty and adherence
to the policies of the party. Those that don't play ball and show
some initiative are ousted by the party. They cut off all financial
support for reelection campaigns and actually run selected candidates
against them.
The latest example of this is Republican Senator Arlen Specter's
decision to leave the party and become a Democrat. Any other Republicans
who have any hope of establishing a reputation based on credibility
and an honest effort to do what is best for the country and its
people, instead of the party, should consider Specter's example.
But, the Republican Party hasn't changed a bit. Instead, they've
hunkered down and are apparently united in a lockstep effort to
stop President Obama from saving the country from the disastrous
decisions forced upon Americans by GW and Company. And McCain, who
previously advocated a bilateral policy, instead of the unilateral
approach of the Republicans, is leading the charge.
The Republican Party is in denial and if they don't change soon
there's a huge possibility this could lead to the total destruction
of the party. The Project for a New American Century (PNAC) was
a total disaster, but Cheney and GW and still claiming their policies
were correct in an effort to salvage their reputations in history.
The party is continuing its policies of loudly attacking opponents,
mostly through lies. In this case, they're attempting to shift the
blame for the financial disasters they caused over to Obama. They're
fighting to stop his efforts to control the financial industries,
whose outright corruption and uncontrolled greed lead to the financial
collapses in the banking, insurance and mortgage industries.
The Republicans have actually turned against the bailouts initiated
by GW and enabled by their lockstep support of his administration.
The Senate recently shot down the Anti-Foreclosure Bill, an effort
to halt the barrage of home foreclosures caused by the banking industry.
But the banks won't hear of it. Senator Dick Durbin, Demo majority
whip, says "The Banks Own Washington." Durbin also says
the banks own the Senate. VIDEO
The House has approved legislation that would control credit card
interest rates and fees. The bill would outlaw double-cycle billing,
prohibit retroactive rate increases and stop banks from issuing
credit cards to anyone under the age of 18. Lots of luck in passing
this in the Senate.....
The future of this country is at stake and our legislators are
failing in the effort to turn things around. It will be up to the
people, the tax paying citizens, to affect real change.
The way to do this is for the people to be aware of what is really
happening in Washington and identify the culprits who are responsible.
This includes all aspects of our government, from the elected officials
to the appointed officials who head our government agencies.
The next step is to employ the right to vote and throw the officials
out of office. Then replace them with competent, intelligent people
who will actually make an effort to do the right thing.
